Buon Giorno! I recently had a chance to visit Italy for two weeks. During this time, I was mesmerized and blown away by the numerous treasures that Italy had to offer. It was such an enriching experience and during this time, I kept repeating to myself, “If I could only share with others what I am seeing right now...” This motivated me to finally come up with a workshop of my own. This is not a typical “sit down in a classroom setting” type of workshop. You will be traveling with me to various parts of Italy immersing yourself in their culture and learning about their way of life. Best of all, we get to capture all this with our cameras!

Panasonic GH1
Panasonic announced pricing for the highly-anticipated LUMIX DMC-GH1, the new Micro Four Thirds digital camera with Full-High Definition video recording ability. The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH1 will be available in early June for a suggested retail price of $1499.95 including a LUMIX G VARIO 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. super-zoom lens. The new lens, designed to support HD movie recording, features a silent motor and continuous auto focusing capability. The Panasonic GH1 is an interchangeable-lens system camera sporting a high-resolution electronic viewfinder, a 12-megapixel sensor for high-resolution still photography, and an ability to record AVCHD 1080p/24p High Definition video. Uniquely, you can adjust aperture and shutter speed even in video mode.

JACKSON'S SMILE
| While I am very fortunate to follow and live my passion for documenting people and the union of two families, it is also very rewarding to be able to give back to others in need. Please allow me to tell you the story of Jackson and hope you can join me and my friends Cameron Ingalls, Jose Villa and Sarah Rhoads in our efforts to give baby Jackson the gift of a smile. The story of Jackson Jackson was born with a rare syndrome called “Simpson Golabi Behmel” as well as a cleft lip and palate. His smile has cost hundreds of thousands of dollars thus far. Jackson has already had two major surgeries in just his first year of life. He is destined for a childhood of plastic surgeries, not to mention other surgeries to address the various anomalies associated with his extremely rare syndrome. His parents, Daniel and Halle, are doing all they can to provide Jackson with a healthy life. Without insurance and financial gifts from others, Jackson's medical expenses would total close to one million dollars by now, just so he can eat, drink, and smile. Simple gifts that most of us take too much for granted. What is Jackson's Smile Jackson's Smile is a coalition of photographic artists dedicated to giving baby Jackson and others like him some of our most precious resources; our time, our money, and our talent. 1) pph: Where is home ??
1) pph: Where is home ?? kk: Chicago, IL (Actually Des Plaines which is suburb right outside of Chicago near the O’Hare airport.
2) pph: How long have you been shooting ??
kk: This is my third year shooting full time.
3) pph: What camera camera gear do you use / and what's your favorite lens ??
kk: I use all high end Canon professional equipment. My favorite lens is 24-70mm 2.8L. It’s a very versatile. It was my first lens I purchased and the one I use the most still.
4) pph: Do you have a memorable wedding photography moment ??
kk: I have been fortunate to photograph all over United States. I also had a chance to shoot in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Mexico. All these weddings were incredible. But what happens during the wedding is what makes the event unique & memorable. For example, I once photographed an outdoor wedding where it was pouring heavily in rain all the way up to the leading of the event. The bride was distressed and disappointed because the backup indoor location was not as nearly as nice and her whole life she dreamed of having an outdoor ceremony. Then all of a sudden, the rain seemed to stop immediately and the brightest sunshine appeared to completely dry out the ground just in time for the wedding. It was as if God answered her prayers and paused the weather to allow the ceremony to take place that day. There are so many stories like that and they are the memories along with the friendships I make with my clients, that I treasure the most.
5) pph: First car? Today's car? What do you want in the future ??
kk: My first car was a Green Ford Explorer 1996. I was married to that car. I drove it for about 10 years and it finally broke down on me. I now drive a Hyundai Santa Fe 2007. I love that ride. J In the future, I might go for a more fuel-efficient hybrid car.
6) pph: Is there anyone else in the "biz" you enjoy shooting with? why? who would you like to shoot with ??
kk: I think being able to second shoot for someone is a breath of fresh air. I try to do it whenever I can but it’s been difficult trying to do that on top of my own shooting schedule. I’ve been fortunate to second shoot for Bob Davis, Mike Colón, Gene Higa, Tomas Flint, David Burke, Shane Melenbacker & more. I would LOVE to shoot with Ray Santana (still waiting for the invitation).
7) pph: Where would you like to shoot that you haven't yet ??
kk: An event at the White House for President Obama as the official photographer.
8) pph: Where would be your dream " desti " location ??
kk: I would welcome the opportunity to shoot at an exotic location – Egypt, Kenya, China, Korea, Turkey, etc. For now, I’ll settle for places like Italy or Spain. J
9) pph: What good tips can you give to a photographer starting off today ??
kk: Network with people and build a good circle of people around you. Learn from the best and keep striving to grow everyday. Do things outside of photography that will help you to be inspired everyday. Philosophically speaking, passion, detail and greatness in any field inspire me. Passion for anything is inspiring and makes me curious about where that passion comes from and how it affects people. Details are the subtleties that often make the difference between good and great. And frankly, if you have a high level of passion and detail, it seems to often translate to greatness. So when I see greatness, I wonder what combination of both allowed them to achieve that greatness. On a tangible level, I often enjoy walking the halls of museums to view greatness on display. I like spending time dissecting the details and nuances of each piece to find what makes each of them so different and so special.
10) pph: What is the one approach / step that took your studio to where it is today ??
kk: My approach is simple: It is to be the best I can be. My joy comes from serving people and photography has allowed me to provide images that will help them capture memories that they can cherish for years down the road. I want to continue to be excellent at what I do and use that platform to be an example to those around me.
